Putting on the tefillin | Caring for Tefillin.
Instructions for the proper care of tefillin:
1. Keep the tefillin in the shade and not in direct sunlight - not even in a car or a duffel bag that is exposed to the sun. (Since tefillin are made from a single strip of leather, creasing may occur naturally in the process of production. Therefore, the effect of changes in climate on the leather does not signify defects in the manufacturing process.)
2. If you do notice any fission in the leather, call us as soon as you can.
3. Do not put on your tefillin while your hair is wet. Neither should your head or hands be sweaty.
4. Open the tefillin case cautiously so as not to break the hinges of the case. (Opening it at an angle of more than 90 degrees will cause damage to the hinges.)
5. Be careful to remove the tefillin from the case with the "ketsitse" downward, so as not to damage the corners of the batim. ( The ketsitse = the upper part of the "bayit", the upper box.) According to the custom of the Holy ARI, one should not remove the black cover from the bayit even while praying..
6. While wearing tefillin, be careful not to bump with them into a wall or bench, which can cause dents.
7. Before laying new tefillin for the first time, dip a small piece of cotton wool in a bit of pure olive oil and delicately anoint the blackened "batim." Then wipe the sides of the head-tefillin with dry cotton wool.(This step is important because during the process of blackening the tefillin with a chemical coloring, a gray hue may appear; by following the above instructions, it will disappear.)
8. The factory is not responsible for defects caused by improper care of the tefillin, or drastic temperature changes. We recommend that your purchase our Tfidanit for best protection of your tefillin.
